I WARN YOU: THIS IS GOING TO BE LENGTHY!
With all the hype that has been going on at Tumblr and LJ, I gathered enough courage to watch this drama. The anime/manga was a total win that I was really skeptic that a drama can measure up to it more so, top it off.
I thought the school and the No. 3 Music Room set looked like pretty much bleh~ but who cares, the story line and the characters are what really counts. In MY honest opinion, I wasn’t thrilled when I saw the actors who will be playing the characters. I have my own doubts and resentments for them, but what can I do? I love the anime THAT MUCH to face disappointment.
My first thought was “Are you kidding me?” when I saw who will be playing the story’s main male protagonist Tamaki (Yamamoto Yusuke). Tamaki is suppose to be part French but Yusuke looks too Japanese for me, and no offense meant to Yusuke fangirls out there, I don’t find him the least bit attractive. But in all fairness, I can see that he really is trying his best to portray Tamaki’s energetic and over dramatic attitude and for that I am slowly accepting him to be Suou Tamaki. I’m beginning to adore him, really.

Fujioka Haruhi who is portrayed by Kawaguchi Haruna did a decent job plus she really has this boyish appeal when she is on their school uniform.

The Hitachiin twins, Kaoru and Hikaru (by Manpei and Shinpe Takagi) were okay for me too. They were really familiar as I’ve seen them in Mei-chan no Shitsuji.

Mori and Kyoya (by Nakamura Masaya and Daito Shunsuke respectively) were only the actors that I felt little resentment to upon finding out who they were playing. Might be because Mori’s character didn’t speak that much and he has the “wild aura” and I find Daito really appealing and does really look much alike the manga/anime Ootori Kyoya.

As for Hunny (Chiba Yudai). Ugh. The first few episodes was excruciating. I feel like I want to punch him on the face when he is trying to be all cutesy and adorable. I don’t have anything against the actor though he looks cool during the episode showing his character’s background story. He looks creepy and effeminate to me for him to pass as a shota-type but as the episodes go further, I’ve learned to accept him as well. Not wholeheartedly though.

Another notable character was Nekozawa senpai (Ryusei Ryo) he was really creepy hilarious all through out. And he is super cute too! He has much more screen time here in the drama than in the anime which I didn’t mind at all.
As for the storyline, not much has changed which I really like. They might have omitted and twisted some parts of the stories but it didn’t affect much. Although, I wish they have included the part where they accidentally left a sleeping Kyoya in a Department store.
THE VERDICT:
Overall, it was a good effort and work for both the actors and production crew. I might not be fond of the main characters’ appearance, hey I’m superficial like that, acting wise they did a good job. It wasn’t the best but really good. Especially Yusuke.
Am I looking forward to the movie? Heck yeah I am! I have a feeling they’ll use Eclair Tonnerre in the movie. Harhar.

In “Romantic Island” three couples pair off after arriving in Manila, Philippines.

The husband (played by Mun-shik Lee) has never taken his wife anywhere before, but he has reasons for taking her on their first trip. The husband has a brain tumor and he plans to end his life in the Philippines for insurance money.
Convenience store clerk Jung-Hwan (Lee Min-Ki) is offered a free ticket to the Philippines by a friend. Although Jung-hwan is broke he is more than happy to go, especially to forget his ex-girlfriend who dumped him because of his inability to find a better paying job. At the Manila airport, Jung-Hwan is stunned when famous Korean pop singer Yu Ga-Young (Eugene) approaches him to use his cellphone. For Ga-Young, coming to the Philippines is a spur of the moment decision to get away from the pressures of making her next album.
Soo-Jin used her entire savings to come to the Philippines Her home life is a mess and she is in part running away from her family. At her hotel in Manila, she encounters a fellow Korean named Jae-Hyuk (Lee Seon Gyun). Jae-Hyuk is a successful businessman that came to the Philippines for family matters. His long estranged father, who re-married in Manila, has passed away. Soo-jin accompanies Jae-hyuk to meet his step-sister. -wiki
I was only familiar with just half of the cast, and the very main reason why I watched this flick is because it was set in Boracay and was really curious on how they will play it all up.
I was happy on how it turned out, as they did a good job on exposing the beauty of the Philippines to the South Koreans.
The storyline is something very common and relaxing. The characters of the story are all likable and enjoying to watch.
THE VERDICT:
I was a bit bored to be honest, I’ve seen a LOT of romantic movies and this isn’t the best but it’s not the worst either. Soojin-Jaehyuk storyline is my favorite amongst the three. :)

I’ve heard of the manga and anime series long before but didn’t bother to watch or read it. If it has any similarities/differences from the original story, I cannot say. This Taiwanese drama stars George Hu as Ling Qi Sa (Hayate) and South Korean actress, Park Shin Hye as Xiao Zhi (Nagi).
